Bank Indonesia Launches QRIS TAP for Faster, Contactless Payments

Bank Indonesia (BI), in collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Ministry of Transportation, and the Jakarta Provincial Government, officially launched QRIS Tanpa Pindai (QRIS TAP) on Friday, March 14, 2025.

QRIS TAP offers a fast, easy, affordable, secure, and reliable way for Indonesians to make digital payments, simply by tapping a smartphone on a payment terminal. The launch event took place at the MRT Bundaran HI station, attended by BI Governor Perry Warjiyo, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, and key representatives from Payment Service Providers (PJP), Payment Infrastructure Providers (PIP), and transport operators adopting QRIS TAP.

Governor Perry highlighted QRIS TAP's Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, emphasizing how it will speed up and simplify cashless transactions.

"This implementation will expand the inclusive, safe, and affordable digital payment ecosystem for public services, supporting the government’s Asta Cita program. QRIS TAP is a result of strong collaboration between BI, ministries, and Jakarta's government, enabling the public to use this service," said Perry.

Minister Dudy echoed this support, stating, "QRIS TAP merges digital payments with transportation, aligning with our national vision for digital transformation. It boosts public service efficiency and accelerates the growth of Indonesia's digital ecosystem." He further urged all transportation modes to adopt QRIS TAP while maintaining security and user comfort.

Currently, QRIS TAP is available at select transport services and retail points, including MRT Bundaran HI and Lebak Bulus stations, Transjakarta (Royaltrans routes), DAMRI (JR Connexion Jabodetabek), parking merchants, and hospitals like RSUD Tarakan, RSCM Kencana, and RSPAD Gatot Subroto Paviliun Kartika.

Future plans involve expanding QRIS TAP to all MRT stations, Transjakarta, LRT Jakarta and Jabodebek, DAMRI ticketing, KRL routes (Jabodetabek and Jogja-Solo), Teman Bus, and other merchants.

Importantly, users are not charged transaction fees when using QRIS TAP. Instead, merchants bear the cost through the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). Public service merchants, such as those under BLU and PSO categories, face a 0% MDR, while others adhere to the existing QRIS MDR scheme.

Bank Indonesia remains committed to collaborating with stakeholders to grow QRIS TAP adoption and drive innovation in payment systems, aligned with BSPI 2030’s strategic roadmap.
