GoTo Partners with Tencent Cloud for Operational Efficiency

In a strategic move to enhance operational efficiency, PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk. (GoTo) has entered into a partnership with Tencent Cloud. CEO Patrick Walujo emphasized that this collaboration offers GoTo the opportunity to redesign its data center and cloud computing infrastructure for greater cost-effectiveness. "This is an opportunity for us to redesign our infrastructure to be more efficient and scalable at a competitive cost," Walujo stated during the Tencent Cloud AI Day event in Jakarta on February 17, 2025.

This partnership also aligns with GoTo's commitment to supporting Indonesia's data sovereignty initiatives. By relocating all data and infrastructure back to Indonesia, GoTo aims to ensure that its data is managed domestically. "Previously, our infrastructure was actually located in various places around the world," Walujo noted.

The collaboration is part of a broader agreement involving GoTo, Tencent Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud, announced during the Indonesia-China Business Forum in Beijing on November 10, 2024. The agreement focuses on strengthening cloud computing infrastructure and developing local digital talent in Indonesia, supporting the nation's vision for a robust digital economy by 2045. The forum, facilitated by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's China Committee (KIKT), was attended by President Prabowo Subianto.

As part of this initiative, Tencent Cloud has committed to building its third Internet Data Center (IDC) in Indonesia. This development is included in a new investment commitment of approximately $500 million, allocated for infrastructure, resources, and investments in Indonesia through 2030. This significant investment underscores Tencent's dedication to bolstering Indonesia's digital infrastructure and economy.

The partnership between GoTo, Tencent, and Alibaba is expected to accelerate the growth of Indonesia's digital economy by providing advanced cloud infrastructure and nurturing local digital talent. By leveraging the expertise and resources of these tech giants, Indonesia aims to enhance its competitiveness in the global digital landscape and achieve its 'Golden Indonesia 2045' vision.
